Round Rock man tapped to be new Police Chief of Bertram

The Bertram City Council approved the appointment of Leslie Dewayne Kyle to fill the position of Chief of Police at its February Council meeting.

Kyle has 32 years of law enforcement experience. He began his public service in the small towns of Canyon and Spearman in the Texas panhandle. Currently, he is a lieutenant with the Austin Police department where he has served for over 20 years. He has worked in a variety of details including Motorcycle and SWAT but is currently the lieutenant responsible for the East Austin area of the city of Austin.

After 20 years of service in the big city environment, Kyle looks forward to more “on the street people contact” and less paperwork. He is excited to be working with the Bertram Police officers and sharing his knowledge, training and experience with the police force as well as the city council as they prepare for the future growth of the city.

“Dewayne”, as he is known to his family and friends in Round Rock, moved to Round Rock over 20 years ago shortly after he joined the Austin Police force and lived in the South Creek subdivision.

The City of Bertram will hold an official swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief of police, but the date and time have not been announced yet.
