The partial human remains found over the weekend along a highway 30 miles East of Fort Hood are believed to be those of missing Fort Hood solder Vanessa Guillen. Guillen was last seen on the evening of April 22 in the parking lot of Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters, 3rd Cavalry Regiment on Fort Hood.
Personal items belonging to Guillen were found in the armory room where she was working earlier that day at Fort Hood but no there was no indication of what could have happened to the missing soldier. Remains were located in a shallow grave by law enforcement after a local farm worker called the police and reported a strong smell coming from a wooded area near the area where he was working.
Police identified two “subjects of interest, a Fort Hood soldier and a civilian suspect, the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier. When police approached the male subject yesterday walking down a street, the soldier pulled out a pistol and killed himself. The civilian subject is currently in custody in the Bell County Jail. The identity of the soldier that killed himself has not been released at this time.
Police and Fort Hood officials will be holding a press conference. No time has been given yet.
