Hundreds tryout to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at Express Home Games

Round RockTX,  Hundreds of people showed up to tryout or support their favorite singers and musicians at the Round Rock Express 2019 National Anthem Tryouts inside the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond last night. By 7:00 pm last night over 170 individuals or groups had signed up to give it a try and over 200 people or groups had submitted videotapes of their performances.

All the contestants were trying out for the opportunity to perform the Star-Spangled Banner at one of Round Rock’s 70 home games.

Performers auditioned in front of a panel of judges, including Laurie Winckel, owner of Vocal Edge Voice Studio with locations in Hutto and Georgetown. Winckel has coached several past Express National Anthem performers and has held numerous workshops leading up to the auditions. The Video auditions will only be evaluated after all in-person performers have been scheduled and notified.

While some of the contestants hit the mark better than others(some were a bit nervous), everyone who tried out got a round of applause from the exuberant crowd. The atmosphere was downright friendly and supportive of the nervous contestants. It was a true Texas Friendly hometown event.

The Round Rock Express staff had it all under control and did a great job of making everyone feel welcome.

A trio of 8th-grade boys who attend Four Points Middle School was one of the groups on hand to tryouts. Ben kolecki, Landon Vonstroh and Robert Rinkevich with horns in hand were enjoying the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they learned over the last 4 years and very excited to be there.

All participants will be notified whether or not they have been invited to perform the anthem In the next month. Based on the turnout it will take a bit of time to complete the evaluations.
